Three steps to join us

The Montessori Children's House Kronberg accepts children from their third birthday until they start school. Children normally join on 1 August; another date is possible if a place is free.

The Montessori primary school Kronberg has three mixed-age class groups of at most 25 children. Two teachers work with each class.

The Children's House is open Monday to Thursday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, and on Fridays until 2 pm. Core hours run from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm; lunch and afternoon care can be booked in addition.

Yes. The Montessori primary school Kronberg is a state-recognised independent school with a distinct educational character under § 171 of the Hessian School Act, and is bound by the Hessian curriculum standards for primary education. The Children's House is licensed by the state as a day-care setting and holds the German Montessori quality seal.

Admission has three steps: getting to know us at a visitors' afternoon or an individual appointment; then the application itself, with the application form and a personal conversation of about 30 minutes; and finally the decision. Once a place is offered, you have five working days to withdraw. Children in the Children's House aged four and over also come for a taster morning; before starting school there is an assessment of school readiness, and transfer students spend a trial week in lessons.

Alongside free work there are same-age subject lessons. From year 1: English (immersive method, two lessons a week), digital literacy and ethics. In all year groups: music — with ukulele classes from year 3 — art, PE and outdoor education. Religious education is offered as an alternative to ethics.

In years 1 to 3 children receive detailed grid reports rather than numerical marks. In year 4 a numerical report is added, which is needed to apply to secondary schools. In every year group the children also receive a report written for them, setting out their strengths. Short assessments begin in year 2.

The school is run by Gemeinnützige Montessori Kronberg GmbH, a non-profit company. Its sole shareholder is Montessori-Fördergemeinschaft Kronberg e.V., an association founded by six parents in 1995. For parents, membership of the association is part of joining us.
