What makes a Montessori school different? Our parents' seminar over four evenings

“No, we do not do what we want; we want what we do.” — Maria Montessori, quoted from the German edition of The Absorbent Mind (our translation)
Who was Maria Montessori, and what lies behind her approach to education? Over four evenings, head teacher Marie-Liesel von Korff and colleagues show how Montessori education differs from mainstream schooling — with a little theory and plenty of opportunity to get your hands on the materials. You will be given presentations just as the children are, and try out materials from different areas.
The four evenings
Wednesday 28 October: Maria Montessori — her key educational ideas and how her approach differs from mainstream schooling. A little theory with first practical exercises.
Wednesday 4 November: how working with their hands helps children truly grasp the four basic operations — getting to know Montessori's maths materials and trying them yourself.
Wednesday 18 November: from speaking to sounding out to writing and reading with all the senses — practical examples with the language materials used in German lessons, to explore and try yourself.
Wednesday 25 November: cosmic education, presented and explained through one of the Cosmic Tales and through timelines.
Good to know
Each evening runs from 7:30 to 9 pm, until 9:30 pm if needed, in the hall and classrooms of the Montessori school, Le-Lavandou-Straße 2 in Kronberg. Parents from the Children's House and the school are welcome, as is anyone interested in our approach. You can join at any point or come to individual evenings only; anyone who attends all four receives a basic certificate of attendance at the end. We ask for a voluntary contribution of €5 per evening towards materials and handouts, in cash on the night. The seminar goes ahead with a minimum of 15 participants.
To register, email info@montessori-kronberg.de or call in at the school office — please give your name, email address, phone number and the evenings you would like to attend. In the week after the autumn half-term you will hear back from us with all the details.
